Tobias Bergs Forschung konzentriert sich auf Finanzintermediation mit einem aktuellen Schwerpunkt auf Finanztechnologie und Klimawandel.
Kürzlich wurde ihm ein Consolidator Grant des European Research Council in Höhe von 1,84 Millionen Euro für sein Projekt "Die Rolle der Bankenbranche im Klimawandel" zugesprochen. Mit dem Stipendium wird Tobias Berg eine Forschungsgruppe an der Goethe-Universität aufbauen, die dazu beitragen wird, unser Verständnis für die Rolle des Bankensektors bei der Bewältigung des Klimawandels zu prägen. Zuvor konzentrierte sich Tobias Bergs Forschung auf das Risikomanagement und die Regulierung von Banken sowie auf die Rolle technologischer Innovationen bei der Bereitstellung von Finanzdienstleistungen.
Tobias Berg ist Associate Editor beim Review of Financial Studies sowie beim Review of Finance. Er hat den Distinguished Referee Award des Review of Financial Studies erhalten und wurde unter die Top 10 der deutschen Ökonomen gewählt (Handelsblatt-Ranking). Darüber hinaus hat Tobias Berg einen Best Teaching Award für seine Kurse in Corporate Finance sowie einen Star Lecturer Award für seinen Kurs in Finanzintermediation gewonnen.
Bevor er zur Goethe-Universität kam, war Tobias Berg Professor für Finanzen und Leiter des Department of Finance an der Frankfurt School of Finance and Management. Zuvor war er Juniorprofessor an der Universität Bonn und hatte Gastpositionen bei der Europäischen Zentralbank und der Stern School of Business an der New York University inne. Tobias Berg promovierte an der Technischen Universität München.

Tobias Berg's research focuses on financial intermediation with a current focus on financial technology and climate change.
He has recently been awarded a European Research Council Consolidator Grant with a volume of EUR 1.84 million for his project “The Role of the Banking Industry in Climate Change”. With the grant, Tobias Berg will build up a research group at Goethe University that will help to shape our understanding of the role of the banking sector in addressing climate change. Prior to that, Tobias Berg’s research has focused on bank risk management and regulation, as well as the role of technological innovation on the provision of financial services.
Tobias Berg serves as an Associate Editor at the Review of Financial Studies as well as at the Review of Finance. He has received the Review of Financial Studies Distinguished Referee Award and was ranked among the Top 10 Economists in Germany (Handelsblatt-Ranking). Furthermore, Tobias Berg has won a best teaching award for his courses on corporate finance as well as a star lecturer award for his course on financial intermediation.  
Before joining Goethe University, Tobias Berg was Professor of Finance and Head of the Finance Department at the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management. Prior to that, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Bonn and held visiting positions at the European Central Bank, the Stern School of Business at New York University. Tobias Berg received his PhD from the Technical University Munich.
