Dr. Benjamin Clapham was awarded the Research Prize 2020 of the Frankfurt Institute for Risk Management and Regulation for his dissertation "Integrity and Efficiency of Electronic Securities Markets: Fraud Detection, Safeguards, and the Role of High-Frequency Trading". In his cumulative thesis, he examines the impact of high-frequency trading on the efficiency of securities markets, investigates how safeguards in electronic markets should be designed and provides a basis for the automated detection of financial market manipulation with a comprehensive classification scheme. The findings of the dissertation provide market operators and regulators with practical recommendations on how to sensibly design and monitor electronic securities markets. The dissertation was supervised by Prof. Gomber (Chair of e-Finance). The prize is endowed with 15,000 euros for both the author and the supervising chair.
