Central Banking & Financial Stability
Finanzkrisen ziehen häufig schwere wirtschaftliche, gesellschaftliche und politische Verwerfungen nach sich. Es ist daher ein vorrangiges Ziel der Finanzmarktaufsicht und -regulatorik, die Krisenfestigkeit und Stabilität von Finanzsystemen zu gewährleisten. Dafür bedarf es eines breitgefächerten Ansatzes, der sich auf zahlreiche Handlungsfelder erstreckt, zugleich aber auch das Zusammenwirken der verschiedenen Facetten von Finanzsystemstabilität in den Blick nimmt. Diese betreffen sowohl die Strukturen und Prozesse auf der Ebene der Finanzinstitute bzw. der finanzmarktnahen Dienstleister wie z.B. der Ratingagenturen als auch die Architektur und die Bewegungen der Märkte.
Einzubeziehen ist zudem das Zusammenwirken von Finanzmarktgeschehen und Wirtschafts- und Währungsentwicklung sowie -politik und deren jeweiligem Ordnungsrahmen. Nicht zuletzt über ihre Funktion für die Sicherung der Währungsstabilität und die makroprudenzielle Aufsicht sind Zentralbanken eine tragende Säule stabiler Finanzmarktarchitektur. Neben den konkreten geld- und währungspolitischen Entscheidungen sind daher auch Mandat, Governance und Instrumentarium von Zentralbanken unter dem Gesichtspunkt der Finanzstabilität zu betrachten.
Die Forschung im House of Finance zu Central Banking & Financial Stability verbindet in besonderer Weise finanzwirtschaftliche, makroökonomische und juristische Expertise.
