Research and Ph.D. Exchange Arrangements

The House of Finance strongly encourages international collaboration and mobility of junior researchers. In cooperation with the Faculty of Economics and Business at Goethe University and the Graduate School of Economics, Finance and Management (GSEFM), it facilitates exchange opportunities for Ph.D. students and post-doctoral researchers, for the former particularly during the research phase of the doctoral program. For the following institutions and research network, signed institutional-level collaboration agreements have been reached:

  • Desautels Faculty of Business, McGill University, Montreal (joint with GSEFM)
  • LUISS Guido Carli University, Rome (joint with GSEFM)
  • Solvay Business School, Free University Bruxelles
  • PSL, Université Paris Dauphine
  • Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Amsterdam

Research Network:

  • Global Research Alliance on Sustainable Finance and Investment

  • Possibility to go abroad for a period of up to six months (extension possible by request and mutual agreement of House of Finance and host institution)
  • The House of Finance facilitates the first contact between the outgoing student and the academic partner abroad and helps finding a suitable host (GSEFM students should first consult with their thesis advisors about plans for a stay abroad)
  • Outgoing students continue to be enrolled at Goethe-University; they are not enrolled as a full student at the host institution and do not have to pay any tuition or other administrative fees
  • Travel and accommodation costs must be borne by the outgoing Ph.D: student/postdoctoral researcher (funding of up to 2000 euro by the House of Finance Foundation is possible upon application, see “Funding Options” below)
  • Requirements:
    • enrolled as Ph.D. student in one of the GSEFM Ph.D. programs, as a doctoral candidate at the Faculty of Economics and Business, or employment as post-doctoral researcher in the Faculty of Economics and Business
    • mutual interest for the House of Finance and the host institution concerning the exchange in question (for example, research cooperation, co-authorship, joint research interests)
    • outstanding academic performance

  • Possibility to go abroad for a period of up to six months (extension possible by request and mutual agreement of home institution and House of Finance)
  • The House of Finance offers working space for incoming students and helps finding a host at Goethe-University and further academic experts proficient in the research field of the incoming students. Please get familiar with our professors and experts:
  • Incoming students stay enrolled at their home institution; they are considered as visiting researchers and do not have to pay any tuition or other administrative fees.
  • Incoming students are welcome to audit courses in the GSEFM Ph.D. programs, pending approval of the faculty member in charge. Further information on courses offered each semester is available through the Goethe University course catalog.
  • There is no funding for incoming students by the House of Finance. Incoming students must carry all travel and living expenses, unless funding is provided by the home institution. Please find further information concerning accommodation, living expenses, visa requirements and health insurance on the website of the Global Office of Goethe University.
  • Requirements:
    • enrolled as a doctoral/Ph.D. student or employed as a post-doctoral researcher at one of the institutions listed above and/or affiliated with one of the networks listed above
    • mutual interest for the home institution and the House of Finance concerning the exchange in question (for example, research cooperation, co-authorship, joint research interests)
    • outstanding academic performance
